Welcome at Edwin Brand, painter and sculptor. Here you will find an overview of my work.
My main sources of inspiration:
Human being in all his beauty but also in all his filth. Human being as a shape and as a thinker, a feeler, a dreamer...
Elements from nature, those tiny little crumbs you never notice, little creatures, cotyledons, withered dried out bits of what was once a flower...
Style:
Edwin Brand's paintings are to be described as surreal and expressionistic. I often use 'odd' materials next to acrylics and canvas, like sand, tar, coffee powder etc. I still keep on experimenting.
Edwin Brand's sculpture is very straightforward, abstract or styled, esthetic, progressive and bold. At the same time it is very serene. The materials I use are wood, metal, stone, jute, varnish, paint, leather, etc.
Statement:
Edwin Brand looks for the tension or harmony with the combination of different materials. The use of materials without their loss of identity but placed in an alienated context. Edwin Brand's work has to generate questions, has to itch, not to provide answers. The discussion is far more intereresting than the compromise. Esthetics are very important in Edwin Brand's work, although the materials and subjects he uses are not very pretty at first sight. Edwin Brand's subjects are not common. Also the elaboration is unorthodox. he has a constant need for experimenting and progression.
